Patient Instructions for Urology Procedures
Before Your Procedure
If your procedure is under general anesthesia or IV sedation, no food or drink for at least 8 hours before surgery.
You may be prescribed a dose of antibiotics the night before or morning of surgery. Don't skip it.
Let your doctor know if you have a UTI, fever, or burning with urination in the days leading up to the procedure.
If sedation is used, arrange a ride. You cannot drive yourself home.
After Your Procedure
Burning with urination, light bleeding, and some discomfort are common for a day or two.
Drink lots of water (unless instructed otherwise) to flush your system, especially after procedures involving the bladder or prostate.
Avoid sexual activity, strenuous exercise, or heavy lifting for several days.
Report symptoms like fever, inability to urinate, or worsening pain right away.
