Patient Instructions for Hernia Repair
Before Your Procedure
No eating or drinking after midnight.
Wash with antibacterial soap the night before.
You might wear a binder after surgery — ask ahead so you know what to expect.
After Your Procedure
You'll likely be sore at the incision site, especially with movement. Support the area when coughing or standing up.
Avoid lifting anything heavier than a milk jug for a few weeks.
Walking is good — it promotes healing. Avoid straining during bowel movements and use a stool softener if needed.
